Who are we?

We love Students.Churchforstudents is simply a church for students based at St Thomas Crookes Sheffield. Over the past seven years the student ministry has grown from a handful of faithful students to 270+ students in community. Due to the incredible growth churchforstudents was established. There is now a dedicated team (paid and voluntary) which oversees the discipleship and mission of the student church. We also have this awesome website where you can hear/read stories of the power of Jesus and His active church.

Why Church?

We are a student church based at St Thomas Crookes, Sheffield. We believe that Jesus came to earth to show us what life could look like. He also came to die on the cross so that we might be saved from eternity without knowing the LOVE and GRACE of our God (now and when we die). He also came to reach, equip and release disciples to know Christ and make Him known across the globe. These disciples are often referred to as ‘christians’ (Christ followers). When grouped together they become the ‘church’.

Church is not a building but a body of people living life together and working out what it means to know and live for Jesus. It is also a group of people that long to see justice in people’s lives – through social justice, transformation of lives through Jesus, random acts of kindness, giving time and money to those that have less than us.

Summary…

Church is not a building but a bunch of people that live life together, worship Jesus and love others. Church is about ordinary people doing extraordinary things for others. Church is a community with a purpose…to serve Christ and serve His world.

Why Students?

There’s 30,000+ students in Sheffield. Jesus is for all people but our BIG passion is to reach, equip and release the next generation: so where better to start than university students of Sheffield! We believe that we have the answer to life…JESUS. So we want Students to join our community, discover Jesus and live life to the full. With over 30,000 students in Sheffield it should keep us busy for a few more years!

Team

Our Team are here to serve God’s church by developing resources, offer training and organize events that will enable every member to grow in their discipleship and to be equipped to demonstrate Christ’s love for His world.

Ben Gardner

Ben G is the only southerner of the team. Ben oversees all things clusters, communications, pastoral and heads up our Student Learning Community. He enjoys running and often heads off into the Hills for adventures. The last adventure he accomplished involved a bike, 500 miles and a Dutch phrase book!

Jon Hunter

Jon oversees the student church with Ben Gardner. Jon has a passion and a particular focus for mission in the city centre. Over the past few years he has worked with Sheffield Hallam students and has built church from scratch. He is married to Esther and lives in Crookes.

Chris Hardy

Chris oversees the production and theology of ScriptureTV. He loves to read his Bible in all circumstances…he was once rock climbing in the Lake District and was so overwhelmed with God’s creation he was compelled to read his Bible whilst hanging. What a LEGEND!
