After an inspiring interview with Tony Blair about the values of leadership, Judah Smith from the USA speaks on ‘why, why do we lead?’. Here are my notes…
Everything in the cupboards, in the fridge and in our lives often has a ‘used by date’. Sometimes we can often feel as though that we, our purpose, our leadership has a used by date. When we think and believe this we can often retreat and step back from what God has called us to.
When we give something we often expect something in return. When we give as leaders we often want something in return…a pat on the back, a nice email, some praise and thanks. But leadership is often lonely and a position that is not praised or thanked. When we face these questions we can retreat from God’s purpose.
But that is not the point because leadership is about giving.
Leading is giving!
Leading is about being generous. Leadership is about adding value to people.
John 3:16 (NIV)
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Leadership is about giving!
We need to love people rather than love preaching. We need to love people rather than love leadership.
God so loved the world that he GAVE his one and only son…for all.
